Did the Prophet (saaws) Appoint a Successor?

O Messenger, Proclaim what has been sent down to you from your Lord; and if you don’t do it, you have not delivered His Message (at all); and Allah will protect you from the people (Holy Qur’an: Chapter 5, Verse 67)
The Shi’ah believe that the proclamation mentioned by the Qur’anic verse was fulfilled by the Prophet (s) when he appointed Imam ‘Ali bin Abi Talib (a) as his successor on the day of Ghadir Khumm.
I added my comments in agreement with the prayers for brother Hasnain as follows.:-
For the people of weak faith and the majority always constitute of such , it is extremely difficult to fight against the temptation due to greed , wealth and position besides the fear on which only the brave have control , that is why an event which took place in the presence of more than a lac and 20 thousand peoples is forgotten, whatever later happened, that too illegally, in the presence of only a few , was then implemented and accepted by the majority and that is how today that majority has multiplied to form a greater majority of ignorants and unguided though they call themselves the mainstream. . How can the Ummah ignore the fact that all the three future rulers paid their allegiance in a tent specially erected for the purpose and umar bin khattab was the first to come running and breathless said ” YA Abul Hasan , from now on you are also my MASTER ”
And then in the Saqifah the same person after a long arguments amounting to verbal fights , catches the hands of Abu bakr , proclaims his allegiance to him , brandishes his sword and says, ” Come whoever dares to appose ” & this is how one of the most wonderful election of appointment of a Khalifah took place, while the body of the deceased Prophet of Islam was buried by the real successor and the two father in laws were busy conducting this unique drama of an election Hail democracy.
